How to Install a Lace Front Wig: Glue, Tape and No-Glue Methods

There isn't one correct way to install a lace front wig — the right method depends on how long the wearer needs it to last, their skin sensitivity, and whether they want a daily quick-change option. Here's how the three main methods compare.

Method 1: Glue

Lace glue gives the longest hold — typically 2 to 4 weeks — and the most secure, flattest lace melt. The trade-off is application time and the need for proper removal.

  • Apply a thin, even layer of glue along the hairline and let it become tacky before pressing the lace down.
  • Choosing the best glue for lace front wigs usually comes down to climate: a stronger-hold glue for humid environments, a lighter "skin-friendly" formula for sensitive or daily-wear use.
  • Always remove with a proper lace wig adhesive remover rather than pulling the lace off dry, which can damage both the lace and the wearer's natural hairline.

Method 2: Tape

Double-sided wig tape is faster to apply and gentler to remove than glue, with a hold that typically lasts 1–2 weeks. It's a good middle-ground recommendation for first-time lace wig buyers.

Method 3: No-glue / glueless

Glueless lace front wigs rely on adjustable straps, combs and sometimes an elastic band sewn into the cap instead of adhesive. A wig grip band — a velvet-lined elastic band worn under the wig — adds extra security and comfort for glueless wear, and is one of the most commonly bundled accessories we see resold alongside headband and closure wigs.

Most of our HD lace front wigs and 4x4 closure wigs are built to work with all three methods, so retailers can market one SKU to glue-wearers, tape-wearers and no-glue buyers alike.

Quick installation checklist

  1. Braid down or cornrow the natural hair flat against the scalp.
  2. Put on a wig cap for a smooth base, if not using a lace grip band.
  3. Position the wig, align the part, and trim excess lace close to the hairline.
  4. Apply your chosen method — glue, tape or adjustable straps.
  5. Blend baby hairs and set the edges with a light-hold gel or edge control.

Buyers stocking a full install kit alongside wigs typically bundle: lace glue or tape, adhesive remover, a wig grip band, edge control and a wide-tooth comb — we can quote all of these as private label add-ons.
